Change Windows 8 SmartScreen Settings

Change the Windows SmartScreen settings

One feature that irritates many Windows users is the new SmartScreen feature which alerts users when they try to run a program, app or access a file that was downloaded from the Internet.

While this type of warning can be useful, it can become tiresome after a while, fortunately it is possible to alter the way SmartScreen work to make it a little less intrusive.

  • Using the Central Search option described here, type ‘Security’ on the start screen and click ‘Settings’ from the search bar.
  • From the options on the left click ‘Check Security Status’ option.
  • In the dialog that is displayed, select ‘Change SmartScreen settings’
  • Now all you need to do is select the option that you prefer.

Note – Changing this setting can make your PC more vulnerable to attack by malicous software, so we recommend you do not change this away from the recommended setting.
