Creating A New Blank Document

One of the most basic tasks that most users will need to accomplish is creating a new document. In Microsoft Word 2010 there are three basic methods for achieving this:

  1. Creating a new blank document.
  2. Creating a new document based on an existing document.
  3. Creating a document from a template file.

We will deal with these in order

  • Open the File tab.
  • Click ‘New’
  • Click the ‘New from existing’ option.
  • Browse to the document you want to use.

Creating a document from a template

If nice design is not a strong point of yours then document templates can be your friend here. There are quite a few built in document templates in Word, and you will also be presented with an option to access more from the Microsoft Office website if you are online.

  • Open the File tab
  • Click ‘New’
  • Click ‘Sample Templates’
  • Choose a template and double click to open it.
